About the Event

You are warmly welcome to our November Synbio Talk!

Synbio Talks are an event series taking place every month where we talk about different topics related to synthetic biology. Our aim with these events is to build a stronger synbio community in Finland and beyond as well as to strengthen collaboration networks in the field of synthetic biology.

Intellectual property rights (IPRs) are a key factor in creating innovation impact in synthetic biology, especially in commercialization. Even as a synbio practitioner, it is vital to have a basic understanding of IPRs. In this Synbio Talk, Pinja Jaspers (PhD, LL.M) and Alexander Bützow (LL.M) will share their expertise on this topic with the aim to give the audience members a practical understanding of what to do onwards from the moment an invention is made.

You will have the opportunity to learn about:

  • A quick review on IPRs and why they are important
  • The basics of patenting biotechnological inventions from a practical point of view
  • An overview of the synbio and biotech IPR landscape
  • You have made a synbio/biotech invention – what should you do?
